Sovereignty of God
One of the worst taught doctrines in the body of Christ today, is "that God is all sovereign, and nothing happens unless He wills it. Saints! That is not the truth! If you believe that you won't have a very good impression of God. I know I am probably rustling some feathers as I expose this wrong teaching. They need there feathers rustled if they are hearing wrong doctrine, that is contrary to God's word. I want to expose one of the worst heresies taught in the body of Christ today, that God is all sovereign and nothing happens unless He wills it. Heresy means teaching or believing an opinion contrary to the truth. In the dictionary it defines sovereign as first in rank, supreme in power, chief, and highest degree. According to this definition, I absolutely agree this describes our sovereign God and who He is.
Think about it! Can we honestly believe that God causes everything that happens in this world? Absolutely not! So, do you believe that in everything we do, we have to go to God first to get permission before it can happen? Absolutely Not! I will tell you why. God chose not to work independent of mankind. He has given mankind a free will to choose. Deuteronomy 30:19 says, "this day I call heaven and earth as witness against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses, now choose life.
If nothing happens unless God wills it, what happened in all these examples? In Genesis 3:7, Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden which brought sin on mankind, in Genesis 4:8, Cain killed Able, in Genesis 16, Abraham slept with Hagar and had Ishmael instead of Isaac, and in Matthew 26: 47-49, Judas betrayed Jesus. Are these examples of God's will, or did they happen because of mans choices? If your choices don't line up with God's will for your life, He can't possibly make things happen the way He wills it. Yes, God is all sovereign, but He doesn't have total say with what happens on this earth or with His creation that live on this earth. People have said, "Well if that is true, it puts the burden and responsibility on us" that's absolutely right. What I am saying is it's our choices that determine our outcome, not God's.
Isn't it true that God gets blamed for the majority of what happens on this earth? Even insurance companies will have in writing that some disasters such as flood, storms etc, are "acts of God." Sadly to say, Christians today will say, "Well it must not be God's will, when they don't get healed, don't see prosperity, or deliverance manifesting in our lives". Anyone who believes these lies will not ever receive the total freedom that Jesus Christ died for them to have. 3rd John 2 says, Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. This says He wants us well, prosperous, and walking in our divine inheritance on this earth, today. It's just a cop-out; and easier to blame God, instead of us looking at our own hearts, motives, beliefs, or unbeliefs as the reason for not receiving. Think about it, if we can blame God, then we don't have to look at ourselves when things don't work out. Then we can say, "Well it couldn't possibly be me that is blocking the blessings of God in our lives, after all nothing happens unless God wills it". This is such a deception! Anyone who is teaching this is misrepresenting God in a big way, and causing the body of Christ to be robbed from receiving every spiritual blessing God has given us as believers. Ephesians 1:3 says, blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. You know when I am not receiving from God, the very first thing I do is check my heart, to make sure nothing is blocking God from the manifestation that I am looking for.
Think about this! When the twin towers went down in New York that killed so many people; if nothing happens unless God wills it, why didn't He stop it? Who could possibly believe that our loving, Sovereign God would be behind such a terrible act? We are being taught that God is all sovereign, which is true, but He has given mankind a free will to choose. How can we say nothing happens unless God wills it, when our free will is involved? If we are open for His guidance and direction, He will definitely direct us in the way we should go. But the bottom line is: we still have to make that choice to follow Him or not. This plainly defeats the doctrine, that nothing happens but what God wills it.
Also, after the terrible hurricane in Louisiana, the majority of the body of Christ was saying, "it was God's judgment for the sinful lifestyles." 1st John 2:2 says, And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. It says in this scripture that God put His son on the cross for the sins of believer and the entire world. Again, if nothing happens unless God wills it, why didn't he stop the hurricane also? If God did this because of their sinful lifestyle, why is Bourbon St. still there today? Instead the truth is, some highly intelligent being (NOT God) decided to build a city below sea level. It had nothing to do with their sin, but man's free choice, without God's wisdom involved. If nothing happens unless God wills it, did He step out for that meeting? Or was He even invited? I don't think so! Saints, God is never behind any bad things happening in our lives, He is a God of total love, mercy and grace all the time.
Let's talk about the violence in the schools, children shooting children. When we chose to take God out of the schools, guess who came in? Nothing happens unless God wills it; Saints, lets think about it! Do you think God wants children shooting children? The world is in the state it's in because of the choices we have made. Let's stop blaming God for it.
Why do we blame God for everything? For people's death, babies being born deformed, failures in our lives and sickness in our bodies. God is not behind any of these things. The fact is, God made us not to have sickness. It was man's fall in the garden that brought these things on the human race, not God. It always goes back to our choices and free will that will determine victory or defeat in our lives. God didn't start this corruption, He created perfection. God doesn't send wars, or any kind of destruction into our lives. James 4:1 says, "Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in you members?" We say nothing happens unless God wills it. It says very clearly here in this scripture that it is our desires that war in our members. According to the sovereignty doctrine that the majority of the churches are teaching, all of these things are God's will, and God's doing. What a terrible in justice to our sovereign God. It just not the truth! I must stand up and tell you, God is a good God and only gives good gifts in our lives. The only way that doesn't happen is if we open ourselves up to Satan, by our wrong choices. Even in our imperfectness, God doesn't turn from us. Hebrews 13:5 says God will never leave you or forsake you. God isn't looking at our imperfectness, but a heart after Him. John 10:10 says, Thief cometh not but to kill, steal and destroy, I have come but to give life and that they may have it abundantly.
God has chosen to work together with us, and He has to have our cooperation to see the kingdom of God be fulfilled on this earth. As long as man is acting without the wisdom and direction of God, destruction will flourish. James 1: 13, 14 says, "Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. God's will can only happen if our will is lined up with His.
Yes, God is all Sovereign, and He did do sovereign acts without mans involvement. For example: the creation of the world, Adam and Eve, Mary being impregnated by the Holy Spirit, which resulted in the birth of Our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, Christ raised from the dead. Yes, all this that is mentioned in this paragraph was the wonderful work of the Sovereign God, and could not happen if He didn't will it, but man was not involved in these decisions.
THE TRUE SOVEREIGN GOD
Matthew 18:14
Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and come down from the father of lights, with whom there is not variation or shadow of turning.
Matthew 7:13, 14
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life and there are few who find it.
I believed, myself, for many years that God operated this way in our lives
It was God's choice not to work independent of us
HE GIVES US A FREE WILL TO CHOOSE!
